James 3:1–18

In James 3:1–18, James expounds on what he means by being "slow to speak." As we go through trials of various sorts, we are easily tempted to speak rashly and without consideration for the destructive effects our words can have on others. James uses figurative language to describe the destructive potential of the tongue. Unlike beasts which can be tamed by man, the tongue must continuously be bridled. As Christians we need to maintain our integrity, have control of our speach and speak words that build up, rather than tear down.
